The proposed section of highway begins at Station 59+35 and pursues a new alignment in a northerly direction to Station 2752+00 on the Navajo Indian Reservation where it joins U.S. Highway 160. The first 18.125 miles of the highway, comprised of Projects S-244-507, 509, 510, and 511, have been designed. The remainder of the highway is a proposed alignment and corridor with design yet to be accomplished. Preliminary evaluation indicates favorable economic and social impact may be anticipated by implementation of this highway. Construction scars upon the landscape from cuts, fills and borrow will occur. Approximately two sections of range land will be withdrawn from livestock grazing. Reduction of habitat for wildlife cannot be avoided. Encroachment of increased human activity upon a remote area cannot be avoided.
