A three-year project has been funded by the Human Engineering Laboratory to study off-road navigation. The goal of this contract is the development of a cognitive model of the offroad navigator. This model will take into account differences among individual navigators and their skill levels. The final product of this contract will be a prototype of an adaptive decision aid designed to support this navigation model. A paper prototype which illustrates the cognitive model will be developed. This report describes the results of the first year's effort.
