The chapter is dedicated to the description of the autonomous road navigation. In the first paragraph, the impact that the use of increasingly automated and autonomous road vehicles could generate in social and economic terms is presented. It is described how, thanks to the introduction of HAV and CAV, we will have safer driving systems capable of reducing the risk of vehicular transport linked to the human factor. Furthermore, there will be greater transport efficiency such as to reduce fuel consumption and reduce the environmental footprint.
