This project is a completed three-year study of American shortline railroad data systems. It consisted of three phases: (1) a feasibility study, (2) initial database design, development and testing, and (3) 1993 data collection and analysis. In Phase II a prototype software system was designed, developed and tested. In Phase III, 1993 data were collected from the railroad industry, using the data entry software and a paper questionnaire.
