This report covers design and analytic evaluation of experimental vehicles equipped with a Flywheel Energy Management Powerplant (FEMP) in which an energy storage flywheel is employed to permit more efficient fuel utilization, modeling techniques that permit the accurate prediction of transient emissions from an automobile over any driving cycle, and the fuel-saving potential of relatively straightforward changes to transmissions and drivetrain systems.
