In this publication, transport performance figures for the year 1997 are presented together with other relevant Norwegian transport statistics. Domestic passenger transport performance increase by about one per cent in 1997. Road traffic rose by two percent and the number of registered private cars and heavy motor cycles showed a remarkable upturn during the year. Domestic transport of goods increased by nearly seven percent in 1997. Road transport is most important as far as mainland transport is concerned, while ship is dominating mode in external trade.
