Disclosed are an electro-mechanical brake (EMB) apparatus and a control method thereof. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the EMB apparatus configured to brake the front and rear wheels of a vehicle by using a motor comprises: a front wheel driving unit mounted on the front wheels of the vehicle and configured to generate braking force according to control of the motor by a front wheel control unit; a rear wheel driving unit mounted on the rear wheels of the vehicle and configured to generate braking force according to control of the motor by a rear wheel control unit; a central electronic control unit (ECU) for calculating the braking force required for each wheel of the vehicle and transmitting a braking signal, corresponding to the braking force, to the front wheel control unit and the rear wheel control unit; and a plurality of batteries configured to directly supply power to the central ECU. The front wheel control unit is configured to indirectly receive a portion of the power, supplied to the central ECU by the plurality of batteries, from the central ECU. Therefore, if a failure occurs in any one battery among the plurality of batteries, the EMB apparatus can secure the braking performance of the vehicle to the maximum.

    전동식 브레이크 장치 및 제어방법을 개시한다. 본 개시의 일 실시예에 의하면, 모터(motor)를 이용하여 차량의 전륜 및 후륜을 제동하도록 구성된 전동식 브레이크(EMB: Electro-Mechanical Brake) 장치에 있어서, 차량의 전륜에 장착되고, 전륜제어부(front wheel control unit)의 모터제어에 따라 제동력을 생성할 수 있도록 구성된 전륜구동부(front wheel driving unit); 차량의 후륜에 장착되고, 후륜제어부(rear wheel control unit)의 모터제어에 따라 제동력을 생성할 수 있도록 구성된 후륜구동부(rear wheel driving unit); 차량의 각 차륜에 필요한 제동력을 계산하고, 제동력에 상응하는 제동신호를 전륜제어부 및 후륜제어부에 각각 전달하는 중앙제어부(center ECU: Electronic Control Unit); 및 중앙제어부에 전원을 직접 공급하도록 구성된 복수의 배터리(battery)를 포함하되, 전륜제어부는, 복수의 배터리가 중앙제어부에 공급한 전원의 일부를 중앙제어부로부터 간접적으로 공급받도록 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 전동식 브레이크 장치를 제공한다.
