According to an embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus for recognizing an object of a vehicle comprises: light detection and ranging (LIDAR) detecting a target placed around a vehicle; a memory; and a processor electrically connected to the LIDAR and the memory. The processor acquires a plurality of characteristic points within an area of the target detected by the LIDAR, and determines at least one road that the target occupies based on the characteristic points.
