To provide a road surface condition determination method and a road surface condition determination device that are able to determine a road surface condition in a space scale longer than a ground contact length of a tire or a circumferential length of the tire.SOLUTION: A road surface condition determination method comprises: a first step of acquiring over time a signal including information on an acceleration, strain rate, or strain output from a sensor disposed on an inner surface of a tire when the tire rolls on a road surface, and obtaining time-series data X(t) when the tire makes at least two rotations; a second step of obtaining an autocorrelation function R(τ), where τ is time, from the time series data X(t) obtained in the first step; a third step of, for the autocorrelation function R(τ) obtained in the second step, where τ>0, extracting a positive maximum value having a predetermined magnitude or greater; and a fourth step of determining rough terrain of the road surface by using the positive maximum value extracted in the third step.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
