To provide a light irradiation control device, a light irradiation control method, and a program capable of achieving desired effect by light distribution even when a relative movement speed of an own vehicle and an approaching target is fast.SOLUTION: A light irradiation control device 14 acquires a detection result of a target present in front of an own vehicle from a periphery monitoring sensor 22, and controls light distribution of a head lamp 12 on the basis of the detection result. When the target is a target as a subject of lighting control, the light irradiation control device 14 calculates a light adjustment area which is an area including the target as the subject of lighting control and having a light irradiation amount made different from that of an irradiation region outside the area, and enlarges a range of the calculated light adjustment area when the target as the subject of lighting control is an approaching target traveling in such a direction as to approach the own vehicle, and when a distance between the own vehicle and the approaching target is a predetermined value or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
