To provide a hybrid rotary wing aircraft whose rotary wings are driven chiefly by internal combustion engines, which does not need a battery or needs just a battery of a very small capacity.SOLUTION: The hybrid rotary wing aircraft is equipped with at least two internal combustion engines of a first internal combustion engine (20) and a second internal combustion engine (22), and at least four rotary wings of a first rotary wing (12a) to a fourth rotary wing (12d), which is configured so that the first internal combustion engine (20) and the second internal combustion engine (22) can mechanically drive at least two rotary wings of the four rotary wings respectively, through first one-way clutches (30) and so that when either of the first internal combustion engine (20) and the second internal combustion engine (22) fails, the other can drive the four rotary wings.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
