To provide an inter-vehicular distance determination device and an inter-vehicular distance determination method capable of curbing energy consumption when follow-up travel is executed.SOLUTION: An inter-vehicular distance determination device comprises: a calculation section which calculates energy consumption amounts that a vehicle consumes on the basis of a set vehicle speed and a travel air volume for respective cases of a plurality inter-vehicular distances preset for follow-up travel; a selection section which selects the inter-vehicular distance, among the plurality of inter-vehicular distances, which corresponds to the least energy consumption amount among the calculated plurality of energy consumption amount; a control section which controls a cooling fan so as to reduce an air blast amount and controls a flow rate adjustment device so as to increase a flow rate of a coolant when a load on the vehicle is predicted to be increased after the follow-up travel on the basis of the selected inter-vehicular distance is started or when the selected inter-vehicular distance is shortest among the plurality of inter-vehicular distances.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1

    【課題】追従走行の際の消費エネルギ量を抑制できる車間距離判定装置および車間距離判定方法を提供すること。【解決手段】車間距離判定装置は、追従走行用として予め定められた複数の車間距離のそれぞれが取られた場合毎に、設定車速および走行風量に基づいて、車両で消費される消費エネルギ量を算出する算出部と、複数の車間距離のうち、算出された複数の消費エネルギ量の中で最も小さい消費エネルギ量に相当する車間距離を選択する選択部と、選択された車間距離に基づく追従走行が開始された後に車両の負荷の上昇が予測される場合、または、選択された車間距離が複数の車間距離のうちで最も短い場合、送風量を減少させるように冷却ファンを制御し、かつ、冷媒の流量を増加させるように流量調整装置を制御する制御部と、を有する。【選択図】図1
