To provide an inter-vehicular distance determination device and an inter-vehicular distance determination method capable of curbing energy consumption when follow-up travel is executed.SOLUTION: An inter-vehicular distance determination device, which is mounted on a vehicle which performs follow-up travel to follow a preceding vehicle while keeping a set inter-vehicular distance on the basis of a set vehicle speed, comprises: a calculation section which calculates energy consumption amounts that a vehicle consumes on the basis of the set vehicle speed and a travel air volume for respective cases of a plurality inter-vehicular distances preset for follow-up travel; a selection section which selects the inter-vehicular distance, among the plurality of inter-vehicular distances, which corresponds to the least energy consumption amount among the calculated plurality of energy consumption amount; a prediction section which predicts a load on the vehicle after the follow-up travel is started on the basis of the selected inter-vehicular distance; and an adjustment section which adds a predetermined value to the selected inter-vehicular distance when an increase in the load is predicted or subtracts the predetermined value from the selected inter-vehicular distance when decrease in the load is predicted.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1

    【課題】追従走行が行われる場合において消費エネルギ量を抑制することができる車間距離判定装置および車間距離判定方法を提供すること。【解決手段】車間距離判定装置は、設定車速に基づいて、車間距離を保ちながら先行車両に追従走行する車両に搭載され、追従走行用として予め定められた複数の車間距離のそれぞれが取られた場合毎に、設定車速および走行風量に基づいて、車両で消費される消費エネルギ量を算出する算出部と、複数の車間距離のうち、算出された複数の消費エネルギ量の中で最も小さい消費エネルギ量に相当する車間距離を選択する選択部と、選択された車間距離に基づく追従走行が開始された後の車両の負荷を予測する予測部と、負荷の上昇が予測された場合、選択された車間距離に規定値を加算し、負荷の低下が予測された場合、選択された車間距離から規定値を減算する調整部と、を有する。【選択図】図1
