To prevent a driving load on a driver from increasing when making a lane change by autonomous travelling control.SOLUTION: In a vehicle travelling control method in which a vehicle makes a lane change from an original lane L1 on which the vehicle is currently travelling to an adjacent lane L2 adjacent to the original lane by autonomous travelling control including autonomous speed control by which a travelling speed of the vehicle is autonomously controlled and autonomous steering control by which steering of the vehicle is autonomously controlled, an inter-vehicle distance D2 between an own vehicle V1 and the other vehicle V2 travelling on the original lane L1 is estimated, assuming that the vehicle stops the lane change in the middle of changing the lane and returns to the original lane L1 before starting the lane change, and when the inter-vehicle distance D2 is less than a predetermined value, the lane change is prohibited.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
