To enable emergency evacuation to be smoothly and quickly executed if operation cannot be taken over by a driver when a failure occurs.SOLUTION: If operation cannot be taken over by a driver when a failure occurs, automatic lane change to a first lane is executed when a vehicle is travelling on a lane other than a first lane adjacent to a road shoulder during actuation of a function of making an own vehicle evacuate to the road shoulder, and prior to the execution, a predetermined region acting as a reference for determining whether the lane change to the first lane is proper or not is set as a second predetermined region narrower than the predetermined region for the automatic lane change; and when the vehicle is travelling on the first lane adjacent to the road shoulder during actuation of the function of making the own vehicle evacuate or when the automatic lane change to the first lane is executed and the own vehicle is travelling on the first lane during the actuation of the function of making the own vehicle evacuate, the predetermined region acting as the reference for determining whether the lane change to the road shoulder is proper or not is set as a third predetermined region narrower than the second predetermined region, prior to the evacuation of the own vehicle to the road shoulder.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
