To provide a manual-operation brake device for an elevator capable of easily performing boot-up operation and reliably braking the elevator in an emergency.SOLUTION: A brake device 1 includes a brake operation body 3 fixed to a frame F to face a V pulley 2 of a drive shaft D and a V belt 4 in that one end is fixed to the frame F, an intermediate part is wound around the V pulley 2, and the other end is connected to the brake operation body 3. The brake operation body 3 includes a guide member 5, a brake shaft 6 that is supported by it and is freely movable between a restraining position of fastening the V belt 4 and a releasing position for loosening the V belt, a spring 7 energizing it to the restraining position, and a handle 8 turned between a non-operation position where the handle is pivoted by the guide member 6 and raised and an operation position where the handle is tilted downward. By turning the handle 8, a cam roller 8a makes the brake shaft 6 be pushed to the restraining position from the releasing position.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
