To evaluate the environment over a relatively wide area around a vehicle.SOLUTION: An ambient environment evaluation device (10) evaluates whether or not the ambient environment of an own vehicle (1) is suitable for a first sensor (21) for detecting the situation of the own vehicle. The ambient environment evaluation device includes acquisition means (11) for acquiring position information indicating the position of the own vehicle based on the detection result of a second sensor (22), and evaluation means (12) for performing the evaluation based on the position information and the detection result obtained when the first sensor detects an object structure (30) existing around the own vehicle and having a known position and a known property relating to reflection of electromagnetic waves used by the first sensor.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
