With inclusion of MIL-E-6051C as applicable specification for use during space vehicle checkout, electromagnetic ambient environment of check-out area has assumed prime importance; procedure used to reduce ambient level is discussed with respect to specific area; as preliminary step, ambient survey should be performed; good unipotential ground plane should be created as integral part of building; test equipment used in area should meet interference specification such as MIL-1-6181D; use of shielded equipment enclosures should be last resort to interim method.
