To provide a technique by which the accuracy to detect a vehicle position is improved.SOLUTION: A representative one of periphery observation systems in this invention comprises a periphery environment observation part and a position estimation part. The periphery environment observation part observes peripheral object groups from a vehicle traveling on a track. The position estimation part stores map data generated by observing preliminarily the object groups. Furthermore, the position estimation part acquires a correlation of the object groups between the observation results of the periphery environment observation part and the map data at positions limited to the track and estimates the vehicle positions based on the correlation.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1

    【課題】本発明は、車両位置の検出精度を高める技術を提供することを目的とする。【解決手段】代表的な本発明の周辺観測システムの一つは、周辺環境観測部と、位置推定部とを備える。前記周辺環境観測部は、軌道を走行する車両から周辺の物体群を観測する。前記位置推定部は,事前に前記物体群を観測して作成された地図データを記憶する。さらに、前記位置推定部は、前記周辺環境観測部による観測結果と前記地図データとの間で前記物体群の相関を前記軌道に限定した位置でとり、前記相関に基づいて車両位置を推定する。【選択図】図1
