To detect an abrupt and excessive torque generated in a transmission with a simple configuration.SOLUTION: A torque detector (100) comprises: a sensor (102) for detecting the displacement in a rotation axis direction of a gear (40) near a differential mechanism (16) of a helical gear pair included in a final reduction gear mechanism (14) arranged between an output shaft (36) of a transmission (12) and the differential mechanism; and a torque detection part (104) for detecting the torque generated in the transmission and causing thrust force at a gear (38) near the output shaft of the helical gear pair, based on the displacement.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
