To provide a travel section discrimination method and a railway vehicle travel control method by which traveling in a relaxation section between a straight section and an arc section can accurately be detected, not by adding expensive sensors but by only depending on information measured on-board.SOLUTION: Regarding a railway vehicle whose bodywork is supported on plural trucks provided with a pair of secondary springs roughly parallel to wheel shafts, a travel section discriminating method discriminates that the vehicle travels in a relaxation section positioning between an arc section with a constant curvature and a straight section and a railway vehicle control method controls the travel by changing control programs for the sections. Based on output signals generated by height-direction-wise displacing of each spring element composing the secondary springs installed respectively in a series of trucks spacing-wise arranged in the longitudinal direction of the bodywork, the former method detects a slope of the bodywork to the truck and discriminates whether the vehicle travels in the relaxation section. 【課題】 追加的な高価なセンサ類を設けることなく、正確に直線区間と円弧区間との間の緩和区間を走行していることを車上で計測される情報だけで検知可能とする走行区間判別方法及び鉄道車両の走行制御方法の提供。【解決手段】 輪軸と略平行に一対のまくらバネを備えた複数の台車の上に車体本体を支持させた鉄道車両において、一定の曲率を有する円弧区間と直線区間との間に位置する緩和区間を走行していることを判別する走行区間判別方法、及び制御プログラムを切り替えて走行制御する鉄道車両の走行制御方法である。車体本体の長手方向に離間して配置された前後の台車にそれぞれ設けられたまくらバネを構成する個々のバネ要素の高さ方向の変位による出力信号に基づいて、車体本体の台車に対する傾きを検出して鉄道車両が緩和区間を走行しているかを判別する。また、緩和区間を走行していると判別された場合に、制御プログラムを切り替える。【選択図】図5
