To stabilize the combustion state of an engine at the time of transitional operation of the engine in a hybrid vehicle.SOLUTION: A control apparatus, for use in a hybrid vehicle that includes an engine, a motor as a traveling power source and a battery for charging power for supplying a motor, includes transitional operation control means. In a case where output-possible power of a battery and an absolute value of chargeable power are small at a time of transitional operation of the engine, the means executes a transitional operation of the engine, with an operating point of the engine controlled at a position with lower thermal efficiency and in a wider range of low output to high output than a normal operation and in a combustion state with a high margin down to a combustion limit than the normal operation.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
