To estimate an end position of an obstacle better than before.SOLUTION: An obstacle detector 1 is mounted on a mobile body, being configured so as to detect an obstacle existing outside the mobile body. Specifically, the obstacle detector 1 comprises a distance measuring sensor 2 and a type determination unit 104. The distance measuring sensor 2 transmits a survey wave toward the outside of the mobile body and receives a reflection wave of the survey wave reflected from the obstacle, thereby repeatedly acquiring detection distances corresponding to the distances from the obstacle along with the movement of the mobile body. The type determination unit 104 determines the type of the obstacle on the basis of the frequency distribution of the amount of changes of the detection distances.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1

    【課題】障害物の端部位置の推定を、従来よりも良好に行うこと。【解決手段】障害物検知装置1は、移動体に搭載されることで、移動体の外側に存在する障害物を検知するように構成されている。具体的には、障害物検知装置1は、測距センサ2と種別判定部104とを備えている。測距センサ2は、探査波を移動体の外側に向けて発信するとともに、探査波の障害物による反射波を受信することで、障害物との距離に対応する検知距離を、移動体の移動に伴い繰返し取得する。種別判定部104は、検知距離の変化量の度数分布に基づいて、障害物の種別を判定する。【選択図】図1
