PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motor drive unit and power-assisted bicycle which can detect torque by a magnetostriction type torque sensor, can detect rotation of a crank shaft or the like, and excellently maintain the toque detection performance without transmission of the auxiliary driving force from a motor to the crank shaft when a rider stops pedaling.SOLUTION: A motor drive unit 20 includes: a control unit 24 which has a control printed circuit board 24a and controls a motor 21; a first wall part through which a rotational shaft 21a of the motor 21 penetrates, which is in a unit case 22, arranged on a teeth part 21c side provided on the rotational shaft 21a of the motor 21 with respect to a rotor part 21b of the motor 21 and extends in the direction orthogonal to the rotational shaft 21a; and a second wall part which is in the unit case 22, extends so as to be along the teeth part 21c in the direction of the rotational shaft 21a of the motor 21 and is arranged between the teeth part 21c of the rotational shaft 21a and the control printed circuit board 24a.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2

    【課題】磁歪式のトルクセンサによりトルクを検出でき、かつクランク軸などの回転を検出することができながら、搭乗者がペダルを漕ぐことを止めた際に、モータからの補助駆動力がクランク軸に伝達されることがなく、トルクの検出能力を良好に維持することができるモータ駆動ユニット及び電動アシスト自転車を提供する。【解決手段】モータ駆動ユニット20は、制御用プリント基板24aを有し、モータ21を制御する制御部24と、モータ21の回転軸21aが貫通するとともにユニットケース22内であって、モータ21のロータ部21bに対して、モータ21の回転軸21aに設けられた歯部21c側に配置され、回転軸21aと直交する方向に伸びる第1の壁部と、ユニットケース22内であって、モータ21の回転軸21aの方向に歯部21cに沿うように伸び、回転軸21aの歯部21cと制御用プリント基板24aとの間に配設されている第2の壁部とを備える。【選択図】図2
