PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charge control device and charge control method for an electric vehicle that when a load of an electric apparatus activated using part of charge current decreases during a drive battery being charged by an external power supply, are capable of avoiding occurrence of an overvoltage state caused by a temporary increase in charge current to the drive battery.SOLUTION: A charge control device includes a travel motor, a drive battery for supplying current to the travel motor, and an electric hot water heater (an electric apparatus) that during the drive battery being charged with charge current supplied from the outside, is activated using part of the charge current and instructs a reduction in a load of the electric hot water heater when the electric hot water heater is activated during the drive battery being charged (a); regulates charge current after the instruction for reducing the load (b-c); and reduces the load of the electric hot water heater after the regulation of the charge current (d).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
