PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve transmission rate of acoustic communication between an underwater vehicle and a mother ship.SOLUTION: In an acoustic communication method, acoustic communication repeaters 6a, 6b, 6c including upper acoustic communication devices 31a, 31b, 31c and lower acoustic communication devices 33a, 33b, 33c are driven at the depths Da, Db, Dc between a depth D where an underwater vehicle 2 navigates and water surface W. Acoustic communication for the status S and the command C between an acoustic communication device 3 of the underwater vehicle 2 and an acoustic communication device 5 of a mother ship 4 is relayed through the respective acoustic communication repeaters 6a, 6b, 6c so that actual communication range becomes shorter in comparison with a vertical distance between the underwater vehicle 2 and the mother ship 4.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
