PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road shoulder detection system capable of accurately measuring the direction of a vehicle with respect to the road shoulder and the distance up to the road shoulder.SOLUTION: Disclosed road shoulder detection system includes: a pair of road shoulder detection parts 2a and 2b that scans a road surface A in front of a vehicle 1 with respect to a travelling direction of the vehicle 1 to detect a road shoulder B positioned on the road surface A; and a road shoulder measurement part 21a that measures the direction of the vehicle 1 with respect to the road shoulder B detected by the pair of road shoulder detection parts 2a and 2b and the distance up to the road shoulder B. The pair of road shoulder detection parts 2a and 2b is disposed at least by one at the travelling direction side of the vehicle 1. A road shoulder measurement part 21b determines a point as a road shoulder measurement point, at which a scan line scanned by the pair of road shoulder detection parts 2a and 2b on the road surface B and a scan line scanned by the pair of road shoulder detection parts 2a and 2b on a slope of the road shoulder cross each other.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
