PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gripping detection device in which a structure is simplified and a gripping detection performance is prevented from deteriorating, and a capacitive sensor.SOLUTION: A gripping detection device comprises: a capacitive sensor 2 attached to a steering wheel 1; and a determination part 3 which determines whether or not an operator grips the steering wheel. The capacitive sensor comprises plural long size-shaped electrode parts 2a-2f, and the plural electrode parts extend along a direction where a rim 11 extends, and are arranged so that, an interval on a rim outer peripheral side is larger than an interval on a rim inner peripheral side, along the circumferential direction of the rim. The plural electrode parts comprise, a first electrode set in which two or more electrode parts are connected in common connection, and other electrode parts which are not connected to one or more first electrode sets in common connection and which are arranged between the electrode parts belonging to the first electrode sets.
