PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use a device and a method for detecting collision and avoiding the collision, and enhance safety in a vehicle in an autonomous drive state or a semi-autonomous drive state.SOLUTION: There is provided the method for avoiding collision during retreat travel of the vehicle, the method comprises: a step for detecting an object 34 in the vicinity of the vehicle 10, by at least one sensor 36; and a step for determining a predicted vehicle route 40. The detection of the object in the vicinity of the vehicle contains a detection of an object positioned along a side face of the vehicle, and a determination of the predicted vehicle route contains tracking of a route of front wheels of the vehicle. By a controller 18 disposed in the vehicle, during retreat travel of the vehicle, a probability in which a front corner of the vehicle or the side face of the vehicle collides with the object is specified, and on the basis of the probability of collision, at least one collision avoidance behavior is determined by the controller.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
