PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a collision detection device and a collision detection method with which it is possible to find the exact collision position of a collision object that collides with an automobile.SOLUTION: A collision detection device comprises: a sensor tube 1 disposed near the front of an automobile M so as to extend in the vehicle width direction and having a hollow pressure wave propagation path 8 formed in the inside, propagating a pressure wave caused by collision against the front of the automobile M in the vehicle width direction via the pressure wave propagation path 8; a pressure sensor, connected to the sensor tube 1, for detecting the strength of the pressure wave propagating along the pressure wave propagation path 8; and a collision arithmetic unit 3 for calculating a collision position at the front of the automobile M on the basis of the pressure wave detected by the pressure sensor.
