An electric vehicle (EV) charging arrangement includes: a power supply unit (PSU) 101 that receives mains electricity from a grid supply 102; a plurality of charging stations 111-116 that supply charging electricity to one or more EVs; and a switching arrangement 121-126 for selectively connecting the PSU to each of the charging stations. The charging stations are located within a car park and located on selected crossing points of dividing lines defining parking locations. Each charging station includes a local battery for storing electricity received from the PSU. One or more EVs are connected, via a charging interface 151-156, to a charging station, and charging electricity is supplied from the local battery to at least one EV. Visual indicators 131, 132 may identify charging stations for which charging capabilities are immediately available. The details of charging station usage may be recorded and the charging of batteries that record the highest level of usage may be prioritised. Alternatively, the charging of batteries indicating the lowest state of charge (SOC) may be prioritised. In an embodiment, the local batteries are recharged sequentially from the PSU in accordance with a charging schedule based on: the extent to which each local battery has been discharged; and an expectation of use over a predetermined period.
