The method comprises obtaining an observation of an object state. Further, the method comprises determining the object state based on a joint Student's t-distribution. Determining the object state comprises approximating the joint Student's t-distribution of distributions for an object state estimate in a previous time step, a process noise, and the observation. The joint Student's t-distribution is based on a first and at least one second parameter. Determining the object state comprises adapting the first parameter and the second parameter.
