The invention relates to a system for detecting the surface of a track portion, comprising: a rail vehicle (1); a surface scanner (9); and an evaluation device (10); wherein a receiving device (11) for temporarily fastening and connecting the surface scanner (9) is situated on the rail vehicle (1); wherein a connection device (13), coupled to the receiving device (11), for the evaluation device (10) is situated in an operator cabin (6) of the rail vehicle (1); and wherein the evaluation device (10) is arranged in a portable housing (12) having power and data ports (16, 17) for temporary connection to the connection device (13). The rail vehicle (1) is thus prepared for immediate deployment of the system, and the surface scanner (9) and the evaluation device (10) do not have to be permanently carried along.
