The invention relates to a method for operating a parking assistance system for a vehicle (100), said method having the steps of: a) starting a parking process in order to park the vehicle on a parallel parking space; b) semi-autonomously carrying out a first pass of the parking process while a user (105) monitors the vehicle (100), c) receiving surroundings sensor data from at least one surroundings sensor of the vehicle during the first pass, d) ascertaining whether the vehicle is in a specified state after concluding the first pass, and e) triggering additional fully autonomous passes of the parking process on the basis of the ascertained specified state.
