The present disclosure relates to a method, a terminal device and a medium for screening gradient points, and a method and a system for calculating a gradient. The method for screening gradient points includes: screening, from the electronic horizon data, the gradient points whose first-order derivatives relative to road offset values are greater than or equal to a derivative threshold, as first-level gradient points; and screening, from the first-level gradient points, second-level gradient points according to a difference between the road offset values corresponding to two adjacent first-level gradient points, as discrete gradient points after screened. In the method for calculating a gradient, the gradient values of the gradient points between adjacent discrete gradient points are recalculated according to the gradient value of each discrete gradient point and the corresponding road offset value. The present disclosure greatly simplifies the number of forward road gradient points to be directly obtained, maintains the original shape of the road gradient. The process is simple, requires less hardware resources, and is suitable for vehicle use.
