This application discloses a key object selection method, an apparatus, and a system. The method includes: obtaining lane line detection information, motion posture information of a vehicle, and detection information of a plurality of objects; determining a lane area based on the lane line detection information; determining a track area of the vehicle based on the motion posture information of the vehicle; determining a passing area of the vehicle based on the lane area, the track area of the vehicle, and a traveling status of the vehicle; determining status parameter values of the plurality of objects based on the passing area of the vehicle and the detection information of the plurality of objects, where the status parameter value of each object is used to indicate a degree of overlapping between the object and the passing area of the vehicle; and selecting at least one key object from the plurality of objects based on at least the status parameter values of the plurality of objects. According to the foregoing method, a key object can be accurately selected in various driving scenarios, to provide support for an autonomous driving system and a driver assistance system to perform a correct control action on the vehicle.
