A method and an apparatus are provided for creating underground drone routes. The method, for example, involves querying digital map data from a geographic database (113) for at least one underground passageway (109) to reach a destination of the drone (101). The digital map data includes location data for a plurality of entry points (115), a plurality of exit points (117), or a combination thereof to the network of underground passageways. The method also involves generating a route to the destination via the at least one underground passageway (109) based on the location data.
