The present invention relates to an electronic parking brake system (1) of a motor vehicle, comprising a brake actuator (2), which can be moved into a braking position for applying braking force to a wheel of the motor vehicle, a manually actuatable actuation element (3) for activation of the brake actuator (2) by a user, a control unit (4) electronically communicating with the actuation element (3) to activate a control valve (5) connected to the brake actuator (2), wherein the control unit (4) has an interface (6) for communication with an external control system (7) comprising actuators and/or sensors defining the operating state of the motor vehicle, as well as calculation instructions for evaluation of a data packet (8) sent by the control system (7), to activate the brake actuator (2) of the parking brake system (1) in the event of appropriate evaluation of the data packet (8). The invention further relates to a motor vehicle having an electronic parking brake system (1) of this type, as well as to a method for operating a parking brake system (1) of this type.
