The invention relates to a method of estimating the range of an electric vehicle fitted with a battery and an electric motor. The main characteristic of the method of estimation according to the invention is that it comprises the following steps: - a step of separating the quantity of electrical energy stored in the battery into a nominal quantity and a reserve quantity, - a step of estimating the electrical energy consumed, - a step of estimating the vehicle range achieved, either solely on the basis of the nominal quantity if the energy consumed is less than a predefined threshold value, or on the basis of said nominal quantity and of the reserve quantity if said energy consumed is greater than said predefined threshold value.
