The invention concerns a method for controlling a system (10) for detecting and tracking a target (12), the system (10) comprising an unmanned autonomous moving object (16) provided with a camera (20A, 20B), the method comprising the steps of: - providing at least one parameter relative to the system (10), to the target and to the environment of the system (10), - selecting an algorithm from a plurality of algorithms for detecting and tracking a target depending on said at least one provided parameter in order to obtain a selected algorithm, - implementing the selected algorithm in order to obtain a first law for controlling the camera (20A, 20B) and a second law for controlling the moving object (16), and - controlling the camera (20A, 20B) and the moving object (16) depending on the control laws.
