The system (11) has a permanent magnet type polyphase alternator (13) mechanically coupled to a thermal engine (6), and electrically connected to an AC/DC converter (12). The AC/DC converter is connected to a traction battery (2) for supplying an electric traction motor (1) by an electric power network (3) of an electric vehicle. The alternator operates only in a generator mode, where the alternator includes a rotation speed measurement unit for measuring a rotation speed of the engine, and a voltage measurement unit for measuring an applied voltage to the traction battery.
