Image data of these images are processed, a focus area (340) of the vehicle driver (104) outside the vehicle (102) is ascertained as a first result on the basis of the image data of the camera (134), and a likelihood that the vehicle (102) turns in the direction of the ascertained focus area is ascertained as a second result on the basis of odometer data of the vehicle (102), wherein, by means of the environment detection unit, it is checked whether or not the odometer data capable of steering has other originals, and the check result is acquired as a third result, and wherein the steering intention is determined on the basis of the three acquired results.
