The application describes a fail-operated steering angle sensor for a vehicle. A fail-operated steering angle sensor comprises a central gear (hub) and two external gears (gear 1 and gear 2) mechanically connected to the hub. The two external gears are magnetic, and the two external gears are arranged near a printed circuit board (PCB). The SAS fail operation is connected to a steering wheel actuator shaft by means of which the steering wheel actuator shaft is mechanically connected to the central gear, the two external gears and a rotor arranged between the central gear and the PCB to provide angular rotation for the above moving part. The change of the magnetic field and the magnetic flux generated by the rotation of the mechanical part is determined by the printed circuit board.
