The invention relates to a control method for a robot to autonomously take an elevator, which comprises the following steps of: identifying a matrix numeric keyboard of the elevator through a camera of the robot, and identifying numeric keys of the matrix numeric keyboard; character recognition is carried out on the number keys to obtain reference number characters and coordinate information of the number keys where the reference number characters are located; based on a target number corresponding to the target floor, matching the reference number character and the coordinate information of the number key where the reference number character is located, and obtaining the coordinate information of the target key; according to the coordinate information of the target key, the mechanical arm is controlled to press a digital key corresponding to the target floor; according to the light color characteristics of the number keys corresponding to the target floor, whether the mechanical arm successfully presses the number keys corresponding to the target floor or not is judged; if yes, collecting a bright number key image and carrying out character recognition, and judging whether the recognized character is the same as the number corresponding to the target floor or not; and if yes, ending the process. The function that the robot takes the elevator autonomously through the mechanical arm is achieved.
