The invention relates to a method for controlling a flying drone (5) in an elevator shaft (7) of an elevator system (3) and to an elevator system inspection device (1) provided for carrying out the method. The method comprises the following steps: receiving elevator shaft segment information provided by the elevator installation (3), said elevator shaft segment information indicating which volume segment (23) of the elevator shaft (7) is currently determined by the elevator installation (3) as being obstructed by the drone (5); and controlling the drone (5) along a flight path automatically determined by the drone (5), the drone (5) determining the flight path in such a way that the drone (5) moves only outside the determined volume segment (23) blocking the drone (5), the drone (5) determining the flight path taking into account the received elevator shaft segment information. By exchanging elevator shaft segment information with the elevator installation (3), the drone (5) can easily initiate an evasion in time to prevent collisions with quickly displaced components (9) of the elevator installation (3).
