The invention discloses a high-adaptability power transmission tower climbing device which comprises a first clamping mechanism, a second clamping mechanism, a third clamping mechanism, a fourth clamping mechanism, an upper machine body, a mechanical joint, a lower machine body, a linear guide rail, a driving motor, a ball screw and a sliding block. The upper fuselage is connected with the lower fuselage through a mechanical joint; the two driving motors are located at the tail ends of the upper machine body and the lower machine body correspondingly. The two ball screws are located at the bottoms of the upper machine body and the lower machine body correspondingly. The two sets of linear guide rails are respectively fixed on two sides of the bottoms of the upper machine body and the lower machine body; the first clamping mechanism and the second clamping mechanism are installed on a ball screw of the upper machine body through corresponding sliding blocks and move in a guiding mode through linear guide rails. The third clamping mechanism and the fourth clamping mechanism are installed on a ball screw of the lower machine body through corresponding sliding blocks and move in a guiding mode through linear guide rails. The four clamping mechanisms are used for clamping or loosening the tower in the climbing process. The invention further discloses three power transmission tower climbing methods.
