The disclosure relates to a hybrid electric vehicle and a method of controlling an engine speed of the hybrid electric vehicle. Specifically, the method includes: when driving in an engine clutch engaged state, in which a first motor directly connected to an engine is connected to a first end of the engine clutch and a second motor is connected to a second end of the engine clutch, determining a compensation value based on a rotational speed difference between the engine and the second motor when a control entry cause that causes the rotational speeds of the engine and the second motor to not match occurs; and compensating the output torque of the first motor based on the compensation value.
