The invention provides a battery system for an electric vehicle and a control method thereof. The electric vehicle comprises a motor and a whole vehicle controller. The battery system comprises a first battery module, a second battery module and a power supply control module, wherein the second battery module is used for placing a plurality of removable batteries; the power supply control module is used for receiving the driving intention from the vehicle control unit and switching the power supply mode of the motor according to the driving intention. The power supply mode comprises power supply only by the first battery module, power supply only by the second battery module, power supply by the first battery module and the second battery module which are connected in series, and power supply by the first battery module and the second battery module which are connected in parallel.
