The invention relates to a method for estimating a torque of an electric machine (1), the method comprising the steps of: estimating a first torque (M1) by a cross-product formed from an estimated magnetic flux of the electric machine (1) and an actual current of the electric machine (1) using a first method; estimating a second torque (M2) using a second method by determining a power balance that can be calculated by means of a difference between an AC output power of an inverter (2) connected to the electric machine (1) and a total power loss of the electric machine (1); and determining the final torque (Mfin) as a weighted average of the first torque (M1) weighted with the first weight and the second torque (M2) weighted with the second weight. The invention also relates to a control unit (4) for carrying out the method and to an electric traction drive (3) having such a control unit (12).
