The jellyfish type underwater robot comprises a jellyfish top cover, a control device, N jellyfish swing arms, a supporting platform, N driving mechanisms and an acceleration propelling device used for accelerating the reversing/moving speed. The acceleration propelling device comprises an acceleration base pipe fixedly installed on the end face, away from the jellyfish top cover, of the supporting platform, N water inlet valves arranged on the circumferential face of the acceleration base pipe, a water outlet valve arranged in the axis direction of the acceleration base pipe and a chemical reaction part arranged on the inner wall of the acceleration base pipe. Water enters the reaction cavity through the water inlet valve, the chemical reaction part on the inner wall of the accelerating base tube corresponding to the reaction cavity reacts to generate hot gas to increase the pressure in the reaction cavity, and the water in the reaction cavity is discharged from the water outlet valve by utilizing the pressure difference between the inside and the outside of the reaction cavity in the accelerating base tube, so that the aim of accelerating is fulfilled.
